UNC Charlotte Motorsports Engineering
UNC Charlotte offers the premier motorsports program in the country, with four-year and graduate degrees in disciplines ranging from mechanical engineering to sport marketing and management. The Motorsports Concentration, offered in Mechanical Engineering, has produced over 10% of NASCAR’s engineering workforce. Located just 5 miles from Lowes Motor Speedway and within 50 miles of 90% of NASCAR’s Cup teams, we’re in the heart of racing.

2. ZMAX Super Chevy Drag Race and Car Show   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:25:51 +0000]
The new Lowes Motor speedway ZMAX drag strip was the host for the 2009 Super Chevy annual event. UNC Charlotte engineering students were on hand to conduct the technical inspections for the three day event.

3. Summer High School Engineering Camps   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:25:13 +0000]
Partnering with the Charlotte Mecklenburg school district and their academy's of engineering that is driven by the project lead the way curriculum and the national academy foundation are holding one week engineering camps this summer with the assistance of the UNC Charlotte faculty and the motorsports industry. Four district camps are scheduled for the summer and one additional camp being held on the UNC Charlotte campus.

Campers will be staying at the University dorms and participating in hands on classes in civil, electrical, mechanical and motorsports engineering.

4. Student Drag Race Team makes its first pass down the strip for 2009   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:24:27 +0000]

After two semesters of engine development and dyno testing of their 500 HP. Engine, the team made its first test passes down the track. The outing was a big success without one problem with the car. The team is now preparing for numerous races this summer and fall.

Clyde Vickers owner of CV Products, one of the motorsports lab largest donors, expands his company's involvement with the announcement of an annual scholarship going to a motorsports engineering student each fall.

6. Nissan Corporation donates 2008 Maxima to the Motorsports Lab   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:23:17 +0000]
In addition to designing and building race cars, various research projects are being conducted in the lab. The Nissan V-6 engine and its CVT transmission will be part of an emissions and alternative fuel study, including a transmission research project being driven by the new DTS engine dyno.

7. Brian Vickers driver of the number 83 Red Bull NASCAR Sprint Cup Car visits UNC Charlotte Motorsports Engineering.   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:22:15 +0000]
Brian Vickers makes a visit to the Motorsports Lab at UNC Charlotte during race week leading up to the ALL STARS Race.  Brian spent the day in the lab talking with the motorsports students discussing their design projects and race cars. Before arriving Brian knew how talented some of these students are, as he works daily with six graduates of UNC Charlotte engineering at Red Bull Racing.

8. UNC Charlotte Motorsports adds a New Team   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:21:25 +0000]
UNC Charlotte Motorsports adds to its current five race teams a Pro - Challenge race team. A Pro Challenge car is a ¾ scale NACAR Sprint Cup car that is powered by a Ford Focus 2.3 liter engine. The students will be making their first race with the new car during the summer.

The made for TV drag racing show that airs on Speed Vision, filmed a segment at the new Lowes ZMAX drag strip that UNC Charlotte motorsports engineering students took part in. The technical inspection process in any racing takes a keen eye and a technical background. For this reason UNC Charlotte was contacted to recruit some of its best engineering students for the task. UNC Charlotte engineering students inspected over 550 competitor's races cars during the three day event. The big bonus for some of the students was when they were filmed for the show.

10. This End Up Furniture renews commitment to UNC Charlotte Motorsports   [Mon, 29 Jun 2009 21:20:04 +0000]
For the last two school years, This End Up Furniture Company has supported the operations of the Legend Car team. For 2009/2010 This End Up has made the commitment to support the newly formed Pro- Challenge team, that will be competing in sixteen races thru out the this summer and the next school year.
