The 49ers Track & Field team will host two track meets this year with the 49er Classic to open the outdoor season from March 18-20 and the Charlotte Invitational on April 17th. Overall, the 49ers will compete in 26 total events during the 2009-10 season with 12 during the indoor season and 14 in the outdoor season.

Charlotte 49ers track and field and cross country head coach Bob Olesen announced the hiring of former 49ers track and field standout Ed Schlichter as cross country and distance coach. Schlichter comes to Charlotte after spending the past two seasons as assistant track and field and cross country coach at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Two-time NCAA all-America Pat Springs placed 13th in the women's long jump at the 2009 USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., Sunday. Springs, who earned all-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Indoor and 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships, jumped 5.90 meters (19-04.25). Former Charlotte 49ers all-America Shareese Woods, representing team adidas, placed fifth in the women's 400 meter finals, Saturday night with a time of 51.05.

Charlotte 49ers track and field stars Darius Law and Aja Jackson both advanced to Friday night's semifinals of the USA Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Thursday. The USA Track and Field Championships are being broadcast on ESPN, Friday (8-10 p.m. ET) and Saturday (7:30 -9:30 p.m. ET) and on NBC on Sunday (4 - 6 p.m. ET).

Charlotte 49ers senior track star Lamarra Currie (Apex, N.C.), a 4.0 psychology major who was the Atlantic 10 Champion in the indoor 55 and 200 meter runs and outdoor 100, 200 and 4x100 races, was named first team ESPN The Magazine Academic all-America in the sport of women's track and field and cross country, for the second straight year. She is hjust the second 49er, ever, to earn two first team academic all-America honors.

Sophomore sprinter Darius Law turned in a 46.47 second time to finish 14th in the semi-finals at today's NCAA Champonships at the University of Arkansas' McDonnell Field.

Every year, Diversity in Education honors student-athletes of ethnic origin and this year the Charlotte 49ers had 16 student-athletes from six sports honored on the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars list.

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. - Senior Lamarra Currie and sophomore Darius Law were each named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine first team Academic All-District list for their tremendous accomplishment on the track and in the classroom. Law and Currie each boast perfect 4.0 GPAs in the classroom and both qualified in two events for the upcoming NCAA Championships which will be held from June 10-13 at the University of Arkansas.

Following a tremendous weekend at the NCAA East Region Championships, senior sprinter Lamarra Currie was honored for her athletic accomplishments and her achievements in the classroom as she was one of four student-athletes to earn an Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship. Currie's A-10 scholarship is on top of the NCAA Ethnic Minority Postgraduate Scholarship she received in February.

On the final day of the NCAA East Regional Championships, Lamarra Currie, Aja Jackson and Darius Law each picked up automatic berths to the NCAA Championships with top five finishes in the finals. Law's finish in the 400 meter dash snapped his own school record in the event.
